Mardi Himal Trek

7 Days

The Mardi Himal Trek is a relatively new and less crowded trekking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range, including Mount Machapuchare (Fishtail), Mount Hiunchuli, Mount Annapurna South, and Mardi Himal itself. Here are some details about the Mardi Himal Trek:

Duration: The Mardi Himal Trek usually takes around 6 to 8 days to complete, depending on the pace and itinerary chosen. This duration includes both the trekking days and the time required to reach and return from the trek starting point.

Starting Point: The trek usually begins from the city of Pokhara, which is easily accessible from Kathmandu. From Pokhara, a short drive of approximately one hour takes you to Kande or Phedi, which serve as the starting points of the trek.

Scenic Highlights: The Mardi Himal Trek offers diverse landscapes, from lush forests to alpine meadows and high-altitude terrain. Some of the scenic highlights include beautiful rhododendron forests, terraced fields, charming villages, and breathtaking mountain views.

Teahouse Accommodation: The trekking route is dotted with teahouses, providing basic accommodation and meals for trekkers. These teahouses offer a glimpse into the local culture and hospitality of the Nepali people.

Altitude and Difficulty: The maximum altitude reached during the Mardi Himal Trek is approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) at the Mardi Himal Base Camp. The trek is considered to be of moderate difficulty, suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness. However, it’s essential to acclimatize properly and be prepared for changes in weather and trail conditions.

Mardi Himal Base Camp: The highlight of the trek is reaching the Mardi Himal Base Camp, which offers stunning close-up views of the towering mountains and the impressive Mardi Himal itself. It is a rewarding experience for trekkers to reach the base camp and soak in the surrounding natural beauty.

Permits: Like most trekking routes in Nepal, a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) are required to undertake the Mardi Himal Trek. These permits can be obtained in Pokhara or Kathmandu.

Guides and Porters: While it is possible to trek independently, hiring a local guide or porter can enhance your trekking experience. A guide can provide valuable information about the route, culture, and ensure your safety, while a porter can assist with carrying your backpack, allowing you to trek more comfortably.

The Mardi Himal Trek offers a unique and less crowded trekking experience in the stunning Annapurna region. It is a great option for those looking for a shorter trek with breathtaking mountain views and diverse landscapes.
